The territory was under the Portuguese for almost 160 years. During the Portuguese rule, they have built Fort Emmanuel, named after King of Portugal which was later destroyed by the Dutch. But the remains of the Fort Emmanuel is still present here. We can also see the Indo-Portuguese museum which helps to understand the Indo-Portuguese Christian art heritage.
