Arthunkal Perunnal

Arthunkal Perunnal is one of the famous feasts in Kerala. This is the annual feast of St. Andrew’s Forane Basilica situated in Alappuzha, Kerala.  The Church was built by Portuguese in the 16th century. The feast is held on January every year and devotees from different parts come to church on the month-long feast. St. Andrew’s Forane Basilica is the largest shrine of St Sebastian in the world. The feast is also known as ‘makaram perunnal’.  A grant procession of St Sebastian statue is carried during the feast. Devotees crawl on their knees from the nearby beach to church.
